You are considering handing us your child for a week. That deserves more than a logo and a cheerful tone, so here is who we are and how we run things.
The founder
Colleen Lake
Colleen spent her teens and twenties in camps, as a counselor, an activity director and a curriculum writer for engineering camp chains, before moving into tech and working with NASA on projects that flew to the International Space Station. Coaching a robotics team from beginners to state finalists sent her back to camp. Catapult is the result.
How we run things
Our promises, in writing
The fun only works because the boring parts are handled properly.
- Staff
- Teachers, teaching artists, and education and engineering students who chose a summer of cardboard on purpose. Every hire is background checked.
- Training
- Extensive training before campers arrive, covering the projects, group dynamics, and how to help a frustrated eight-year-old without simply doing it for them.
- First aid
- Current first aid and CPR certified leads at every site. Allergy information travels with every group and first aid kit.
- Pickup
- ID-checked sign-out every day, even when we recognise you.
- Materials
- Cardboard, tape, string, craft sticks and rubber bands. No power tools anywhere on site.
- Privacy
- We never post your child publicly without written consent. Session photographs go to a private gallery for families in that session.
- Your data
- We do not sell or share your contact details, and you can leave our mailing list in one click.
- Financial aid
- Need-based aid is available in every session. Email us and we will send you the application.
